UPDATE 10/24/12 Bear has been adopted!! ...former post: Rescue Only Rottie mix @ Rowlett Animal Shelter - URGENT!!

Is there any rescue group that can help save this sweet boy? He is estimated to be 5 years old. He has been deemed unadoptable because he growled at the vet during his evaluation. There have been no other reports of him growling at anyone else at any other time. The shelter policy is that if an animal hisses, growls or shows teeth to the vet they are not placed up for adoption. He has not been given a name but the volunteers are calling him Bear. The volunteers and the staff have reported that he is very friendly. One of the volunteers is a grandma who reports that he crawls up into her lap when she visits with him. He just wants to be loved. He is at a shelter and is scared so it is no surprise he growled at the vet. I have seen dogs with many more problems than this get rescued and I just cannot understand why no rescue groups have come forward to help. We have a small shelter and do not have any rescue groups that regularly pull from our shelter. I have emailed every rescue group I can think of and posted pleas on FB and on www.readlarrypowell.com but no one can help. I understand rescue groups are full and fosters are few but can anyone find space for just one more? Please? We are BEGGING for your help. Bear has already been there for at least 3 weeks and his time is very linmited. He can be put down at anytime. If you can help please call the shelter at 972-412-6219 or you can go to the shelter at 4402 Industrial, Rowlett, TX 75088. Just tell them you are interested in the Rescue Only Rottie - there are no pull fees for rescue groups. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. If you cannot help will you please share Bear so we can try to get him saved?

Great news...the shelter decided to go ahead and adopt out "Bear" to a family. The volunteer that spends time with him was there that day and was able to wish him good luck with his new family. YAY for Bear!!
